Oscars 2021 – Best Animated Feature Film

As the world finally starts to get back to normal and the prospect of returning to the hallowed halls of a cinema complex becomes more of a reality, the awards season comes to its end on the 26th April, with the 2021 Oscars. We’ve previously had a little look at the Best Picture nominees, and now we take a gander at the nominees for the Best Animated Feature Film.

Wolfwalkers

In a time of superstition and magic, when wolves are seen as demonic and nature an evil to be tamed, Robyn, a young apprentice hunter comes to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last pack. But when Robyn saves Mebh, a wild native girl, their friendship leads her to discover the world of the WOLFWALKERS.

Onward

It’s been 19 years since the Academy Awards first introduced the Best Animated Feature Film category, and in that time Pixar have received 15 nominations and 10 wins, including two this year.

Their first contender this year is their fantasy adventure film, Onward which tells the story of brothers Ian (Tom Holland) and Barley (Chris Pratt) as they embark on a quest to rediscover magic and use it to spend one more day with their father, who died when Ian was very young.

Soul

Released straight on Disney+ on Christmas Day, Soul is Pixar’s second contender, telling the story of Joe (Jamie Foxx) a substitute music teacher and aspiring Jazz musician who dies the same day he finally gets his big break. Desperate to get back to Earth, Joe enlists the help of soul-in-training ’22’ (Tina Fey) and learns what it means to have a soul.

A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmaggedon

Farmageddon is Aardman Animations’ sequel to their 2015 film Shaun the Sheep and sees Shaun going on a mission to help a mystical alien with amazing powers who crash landed on Earth before a shady and sinister organisation can capture it.

Over The Moon

Netflix have expanded on their success in last years nominations, with their animated musical Over The Moon. Having grown up hearing her mother’s favorite legend about a pale moon goddess who lives alone pining for a long-lost lover, a brilliant young thirteen year old girl builds a rocket and blasts off to the stars to prove the story is real.
