Oscars 2020 – Best Animated Film

Brush away those January blues, it’s awards season and the nominee’s for the most coveted award in cinema have been released. Let’s have a little look at the 2020 nominees for Best Animated Feature Film.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

In the final installment of the trilogy, Hiccup and Toothless must find a dragon utopia, believed to be a myth, in order to save their home from a new threat, however Toothless gets a little distracted by the appearance of a new mate.

I Lost My Body

Following on from their success at last year’s Oscars, Netflix have absolutely stormed this year’s Oscars with a total of 24 nominations, even beating the likes of Disney and Sony Pictures. The first of their two nominations in this category alone, I Lost My Body is a somewhat ‘adult’ animation that tells a story of love and loss.

Klaus

Netflix’s second animated nominee is the beautifully sweet and charming Christmas movie that offers a new and interesting take on Santa Claus’ origin story.

Missing Link

Featuring a star-studded ensemble cast including the likes of Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Fry, Missing Link follows the journey of Mr Link, explorer Sir Lionel Frost, and adventurer Adelina Fortnight as they travel the world to find Mr Link’s long-lost relatives.

Toy Story 4

As per, what seems to be, tradition Pixar find themselves receiving yet another Best Animated Featured Film nomination, their thirteenth to be exact! Toy Story 4 is the sequel that we didn’t know we needed, offering a brilliant closing chapter to Woody’s story.

My Pick…

First things first, I haven’t actually watched HTTYD, Missing Link or I Lost My Body (something I plan on rectifying very soon) so my choice at the moment can only really be between Toy Story and Klaus.

You would think that it would be easy to pick considering I only have two films to choose from but this is an almost impossible decision for me to make. After much deliberation and discussion, based on originality and sentiment, I think I will be rooting for…

And the winner is…

I’m the world’s worst when it comes to animation. But I have seen I Lost My Body which is a really unique movie. Not like anything else I saw in 2019.

I didn’t realise it was a Netflix film, I’ll definitely be giving it a watch some time this week. Having seen the trailer, I think ‘unique’ is going to be the perfect description.
