It’s been six years since the release of Frozen and the world has only just managed to get that bloody song out of it’s head, which means it’s prime time for a sequel, but the real question will be whether Disney can pull off another smash-hit. Read on to find out…
As with the original, the film starts with young Elsa and young Anna playing games with Elsa’s magic, this time telling a story about creatures in an enchanted forest. The girls’ father, King Agnarr (Alfred Molina) tells them a story of a real enchanted forest that he visited as a child, one that is home to the spirits; Earth, Air, Fire and Water. A fight between the soldiers of Arendelle and the Forest’s natives, the Northuldra, angers the spirits and they close off the Forest from the rest of the world.
Fast forward to present day, Elsa (Idina Menzel) and the crew, Anna (Kristen Bell), Olaf (Josh Gad), Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) and Sven are enjoying family time with a game night, when Elsa hears a voice calling out to her. Try as she might, she can’t quite resist the call of adventure and possibility, especially when the fate of Arendelle is at risk. Of course, Anna can’t let her go headfirst into danger on her own so she goes with her, and obviously the rest of the gang tag along.
Whilst I did enjoy this film, it didn’t excite me very much, the story was typical Disney, enjoyable but far too predictable. Whilst the kids probably won’t connect the dots, the adults in the audience will no doubt see which the direction the film is heading very early on.
Despite the predictability of the plot, the story was still fun, well-paced and beautifully animated with a nice sprinkling of humour, predominantly delivered by Olaf and Samantha (if you know, you know 🙂 ). I really enjoyed the songs, although I seriously doubt they will have the same longevity of the originals, and for that I’m somewhat thankful.

I can’t believe it’s been 6 years!! I guess they had a lot to live up to considering the hit of the first one. Still sounds like a fun watch even if it doesn’t pack the same punch!

I haven’t seen it yet but so far I’ve heard more good things than bad! For me it’s pretty hard to top the original though so I’m not going to raise my hopes too much! Xx

I didn’t even like the first one much, so I doubt I’ll see the second one unless my kids demand it when they’re a bit older. Are there any proper villains in this one?!
