In my opinion there is nothing better than a good romantic comedy, I know that’s probably not allowed in this day and age, but I don’t care, stick me in front of a screen with a rom-com and I am one happy damsel.

Although I am quite content watching the same soppy film over and over again, every now and then I’ll stick on something new. Enter Netflix film Falling Inn Love starring Christina Milian and Adam Demos.

To say Gabriella Diaz (Christina Milian) is having a bad week is something of an understatement; the design firm she works for has folded and her long term relationship has come to an end. Drowning her sorrows in wine, with an open laptop at her disposal, she enters a competition to ‘Win an Inn’ located in the heart of the New Zealand countryside.

Leaving the bright lights of San Fransisco behind her, she arrives at the Bellbird Valley Farm to find a crumbling run down building in desperate need of renovation. Eager to fix up the inn and sell it fast, Gabriella reluctantly enlists the help of handsome contractor, Jake (Adam Demos).

However, when the final fixtures are fitted, she finds herself hesitant to leave the Inn, the community she’s become part of, and yes, the man.

I’m not going to insult your intelligence, this story plays out exactly as you would expect, following the almost cookie-cutter method adopted by most romance films. So if total predictability is not your thing, then I would definitely recommend giving this one a miss. However, if like me, you are a sucker for the feel good then its a very pleasant way to wile away a rainy afternoon, with a runtime of just over an hour and a half.

While the acting won’t win any awards, all the characters were charming, entertaining and funny in places. Although it is fair to say the goat stole the show.

As someone who enjoys interior design, I really enjoyed that element of it, mind you, I binge watch episodes of Grand Designs so that was always going to go down well with me. What did disappoint for me though was the fact that the main bulk of the film was set in New Zealand but they did not showcase or utilise the beautiful country as well as they could, or should, have. I wanted an abundance of rolling landscape shots but I suppose that would have distracted too much from the story which was actually likeable and well paced.

So if you are looking for an easy laid-back watch then be sure to add Falling Inn Love to your watch list.
